FAQs

Choosing the right nanny for your family is a big decision and it’s very natural to ask lots of questions. Here at Beaufort Nannies, we aim to reassure you and help you every step of the way. Here are some of the most common questions we get asked.

Yes, we recommend all our nannies have nanny insurance for £5,000,000, details of policies can be found at:

Nanny Insure via Nanny Tax – https://www.nannytax.co.uk/
or
Morton Michel – https://www.mortonmichel.com/Nanny/

Yes, again like all employees you accrue annual leave (both permanent and temporary roles) The number of days per year you are entitled to will depend on how many days per week you work. A 5-day nanny is entitled to 5.6weeks (28 days) per year which includes 8 bank holidays. If the nanny takes a Bank Holiday off, this comes out of the annual leave entitlement. If a part time nanny does not work on a certain day (eg Monday) and there is a Bank holiday this does not come off their entitlement as they don’t normally work on that day.

Yes, they are as long as they have been in the same employment for 26 weeks prior to the notification week which is 15 weeks before the baby is due.

The first 6 weeks of your maternity leave you will receive 90% of your salary, and for the further 33 weeks you will receive SMP currently £187.18 per week.
Maternity pay is usually 100% claimable back and you will need to give your employers your MAT B1 form (you usually get this around 20weeks from your midwife) for them to claim the money back.

Annual leave is accrued whilst on maternity leave as normal and is at the employer’s expense. You will not accrue annual leave if you are made redundant or resign as you go on maternity leave.

You are entitled to paid time off for appointments advised by your doctor or Midwife. The employer can make reasonable contact with you whilst on maternity leave to discuss your return to work.

Employers must hold your position open in the same capacity in which you went on maternity leave, and they do not have to allow you to return to work with your baby.

Yes, they are, like all other employees. In the UK, if you employ a nanny and they meet the eligibility criteria (aged 22-67, earning over £10,000 per year), you are legally required to enrol them in a workplace pension scheme as part of the auto-enrolment process. You must set up a PAYE scheme to manage contributions, and both you and your nanny will contribute to a chosen scheme, like NEST.

Yes, nannies are entitled to redundancy if they meet the qualifying criteria, which is:

  1. Aged over 18yrs
  2. Have been employed by the family for two continuous years
  3. Are employed with a PAYE scheme in place. Family circumstances can alter and the need for a full-time role may no longer be there. If the family are reducing the role to part time, you, as the current nanny must be offered the part time role, which if you decide not to take means you are still entitled to redundancy unless the contract was for a fixed term.

All of our nannies are carefully vetted. We conduct thorough reference checks, an enhanced DBS check (criminal record) and an in-depth face to face interview to ensure every nanny meets the highest standards and professionalism.

Our nannies come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have childcare experience. Many nannies have qualifications such as NVQ, NNEB, CACHE or Teaching Assistant qualifications and first aid training.

Absolutely! Whether you need a nanny with newborn experience, a driver, a cook, a nanny that is bilingual or other requests please let us know. we will work with you to find a nanny that fits your family’s needs.

Every family is different and has different requests. Some placements may take a matter of days, but others may take a few weeks depending on your requirements. We aim to find a suitable candidate as quickly as possible without compromising on quality.
